If you filed your 2024 tax return during the first half of 2025, you might be wondering when you’ll receive your refund. The IRS is currently processing these refunds based on the filing method and submission date. Here’s an overview of the IRS refund schedule for June 2025, along with factors that could affect the timing of your refund.
Refunds for Taxpayers Who Filed Early
Taxpayers who submitted their returns electronically by May 15 can expect their direct deposit between June 9 and June 15. The IRS processes refunds based on the filing method and the date your return was accepted. Typically, if you opted for e-filing and direct deposit, you should receive your refund about 21 days after the return is accepted. However, if you selected a paper check, it could take up to two months.
For those who filed earlier in the year, here are the approximate refund dates based on the IRS official schedule for 2025:
- Filed by April 7: Direct deposit refunds should have been received by April 28. If you opted for a paper check, it should have arrived around June 6.
- Filed by April 15 (the regular deadline): Direct deposit refunds will likely be received between June 6 and June 19. Paper checks could be mailed between June 13 and June 26.
Factors That Can Affect Your Refund Timing
While the IRS has a general refund schedule, several factors can cause delays. The most common reason for a delay is errors in the tax return, such as incomplete or incorrect information. If the IRS identifies issues, the return will require manual review, which can take additional time.
Taxpayers who claim credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit may experience longer processing times. The IRS holds refunds for these credits until mid-February to prevent fraud. Other issues, such as identity verification, fraudulent use of the Social Security number, delays in bank processing, or issues with postal services, can also delay your refund.
Additionally, if you owe any back taxes, child support, or other debts, the IRS may withhold part or all of your refund to cover these obligations.
What to Do If You Haven’t Received Your Refund
If it’s been more than 21 days since your electronic return was accepted and you still haven’t received your refund, the IRS recommends checking the “Where’s My Refund?” tool on its official website. This tool provides real-time updates on your refund status and is updated daily.
To use this tool, you will need:
- Your Social Security number or ITIN
- Your filing status
- The exact amount of your expected refund
If the tool doesn’t provide helpful information or if it’s been over 21 days with no updates, you can contact the IRS directly at 800-829-1954 for assistance.
For those who filed their 2024 tax returns early and chose electronic filing with direct deposit, the IRS refund schedule indicates refunds will likely be received between June 6 and June 19. However, delays can occur due to a variety of factors, including errors in the return, fraud prevention measures, and outstanding debts. If you haven’t received your refund yet, make sure to use the IRS tools and resources to check on the status of your refund.

Hello Jeffery Don Broadway,
Have you contacted to IRS telephone number?
I had three years 2020,2021,2022 filled out by united ministries but had to get my papers about my health insurance before sending them in. I sent them anyhow because I didn’t want to miss anymore stimulus but after not hearing nothing I contacted the IRS and they said they have no record of it and that I’d have to redo them and send them again. Can they penalize me for that?
